Brief spinning when rolling over in bed
BPPV CARE • ATLANTA
Focused care for position-triggered vertigo.
Assessment and canalith-repositioning treatment for symptoms that fit benign paroxysmal positional vertigo—without presenting this as a broad vestibular rehabilitation program.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS
BPPV typically causes brief spinning with specific head-position changes.
BPPV occurs when tiny inner-ear crystals move into a semicircular canal. Symptoms are often triggered by rolling in bed, lying back, sitting up, looking upward, or bending over. Because dizziness has many possible causes, screening determines whether the pattern appears consistent with BPPV or needs medical referral.
COMMON SIGNS
Symptoms can show up in more than one way.
Vertigo when lying back, sitting up, or looking overhead
Nausea associated with specific head positions
A short period of imbalance after the spinning stops
WHAT MAY CONTRIBUTE
The painful area is only part of the picture.
A thorough examination looks at how your symptoms behave, how you move, and what your daily life or sport requires. Common contributors may include:
- Spontaneous movement of inner-ear crystals
- A recent head injury
- A prior episode of BPPV
- Recent illness or prolonged positioning
- Inner-ear history
- Sometimes no identifiable trigger

What does BPPV feel like?+
It commonly causes a brief spinning sensation after a specific change in head position. Constant dizziness, fainting, or neurological symptoms are not a typical pattern and need appropriate medical evaluation.
What is a repositioning maneuver?+
It is a sequence of supported head and body positions intended to move displaced inner-ear crystals out of the affected canal. The maneuver chosen depends on the examination findings.
Can BPPV return after treatment?+
Yes. Some people experience another episode later. A recurrence should still be reassessed rather than automatically treated as identical to the first episode.
Do you treat every type of dizziness?+
No. This page reflects a focused BPPV service. Symptoms that do not fit positional vertigo or raise concern for another cause are referred for appropriate medical care.
