UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS

Neck symptoms can involve more than the neck.

Neck pain may be influenced by joints, muscles, nerves, the upper back, shoulders, or the way your body responds to sustained positions and activity. Evaluation focuses on what reproduces or relieves your symptoms and how they affect the activities you need to perform.

COMMON SIGNS

Symptoms can show up in more than one way.

Stiffness or difficulty turning your head

Pain across the neck, shoulder blade, or upper back

Headaches associated with neck tension or movement

Symptoms traveling into the arm or hand

WHAT MAY CONTRIBUTE

The painful area is only part of the picture.

A thorough examination looks at how your symptoms behave, how you move, and what your daily life or sport requires. Common contributors may include:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Clear answers before your first visit.

Can neck pain contribute to headaches?+

Some headaches are associated with neck joints, muscles, or movement. An evaluation can help determine whether the neck appears to be contributing and whether physical therapy is appropriate.

Do you perform neck manipulation?+

Dr. Karpus is trained in spinal manipulation. It is considered only after evaluation, when appropriate, and with your consent. Other treatment options are always available.

Can you help if pain travels into my arm?+

Some arm symptoms are related to the neck or nearby nerves. Because several conditions can cause these symptoms, evaluation and appropriate screening are important.

Will treatment only focus on posture?+

No. Posture may be relevant for some people, but care also considers mobility, strength, symptom sensitivity, activity demands, sleep, and other individual factors.
