Pain reaching overhead, behind your back, or across your body
SHOULDER PAIN CARE • ATLANTA
Reach, lift, train, and sleep with greater confidence.
One-on-one physical therapy for shoulder pain, weakness, stiffness, sports injuries, and recovery after surgery.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS
Shoulder pain can look very different from person to person.
Some people hurt with overhead motion, while others notice weakness, night pain, stiffness, or discomfort reaching behind the body. Evaluation considers the shoulder joint, rotator cuff, shoulder blade, neck, upper back, and the specific loads your work or activities require.
COMMON SIGNS
Symptoms can show up in more than one way.
Weakness or discomfort with lifting, pushing, pulling, or throwing
Pain when lying on the involved side
Stiffness or loss of motion after injury, immobilization, or surgery
WHAT MAY CONTRIBUTE
The painful area is only part of the picture.
A thorough examination looks at how your symptoms behave, how you move, and what your daily life or sport requires. Common contributors may include:
- Rotator-cuff or tendon irritation
- Shoulder-joint stiffness
- Shoulder-blade control and strength changes
- Neck or upper-back contribution
- Sudden or repeated overhead loading
- Recovery after dislocation, fracture, or surgery

Clear answers before your first visit.
Do all shoulder problems need imaging?+
No. A clinical evaluation can often guide initial care. Imaging or medical referral may be appropriate after trauma, with significant weakness, or when examination findings suggest another concern.
Can physical therapy help rotator-cuff pain?+
Many rotator-cuff-related problems are managed with activity modification and progressive rehabilitation. Your examination helps determine whether that approach fits your presentation.
Do you treat frozen shoulder?+
Yes, when appropriate. Care usually emphasizes symptom-guided mobility, maintaining usable strength, and adapting the plan to the stage and irritability of the condition.
Can I continue exercising?+
Often some exercise can continue with modifications, but the right level depends on your symptoms and findings. The goal is to keep you active without repeatedly aggravating the problem.
