SHOCKWAVE THERAPY • ATLANTA
Focused care for stubborn pain.
Shockwave therapy uses targeted acoustic energy to support the healing response in selected tendon and soft-tissue problems that have not improved as expected.
A THOUGHTFUL APPROACH
More than treatment at the painful spot.
Shockwave therapy can be useful for certain persistent musculoskeletal conditions, but it works best when the underlying load, mobility, strength, and movement factors are addressed too. Your visit begins with an evaluation to determine whether this treatment fits your presentation.
The technology is one tool. The plan is built around you.
Care may include
- Clinical assessment of the painful area
- Focused or radial shockwave treatment when appropriate
- Load and activity guidance
- Mobility and strengthening exercises
- Manual therapy or other physical therapy techniques as needed

COMMON QUESTIONS
What to know before your visit.
What does shockwave therapy feel like?+
Most people feel repeated tapping or pulsing over the treatment area. Intensity can be adjusted based on the tissue being treated and your comfort.
How many sessions will I need?+
The number of visits varies by condition, severity, duration, and response. Dr. Karpus will discuss a reasonable plan after evaluating you.
Is shockwave therapy appropriate for every type of pain?+
No. It is used for selected tendon and soft-tissue conditions. An assessment helps determine whether shockwave, another treatment, or further medical evaluation makes the most sense.
Is shockwave therapy a stand-alone service?+
It may be used on its own or incorporated into physical therapy, depending on your goals and what is contributing to the problem.
